Richard Baines started birding as a child and is a lead tour guide at Yorkshire Coast Nature. He takes great personal pleasure in showing people the wonders of nature. With a specialized interest in birds and macro-moths, Richard’s numerous walks and events also look at mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, trees and flowers.
Richard’s travels have taken him from surveys of rare breeding birds in northern Scotland and the boreal forests of Russia to far-flung birding hot spots in Asia, Africa and the Americas. Richard nature conservation work includes Wold Ecology Ltd which, in partnership with Chris Toohie, specialises in wildlife surveys and farm stewardship schemes. Wold Ecology’s sister company, Yorkshire Coast Nature, provides wildlife and photography tours of the rugged north-east coast of England.
Richard lives with his wife and teenage son close to the lighthouse at Flamborough Head, East Yorkshire, an iconic location where many migrant birds make first landfall.
