Midwest Birding Symposium (Ohio)

Editor’s Note: Laura Kammermeier will be attending this event.

Self-described as “The World’s Friendliest Birding Event,” and with good reason, the Midwest Birding Symposium is a 4-day birding event held every other fall in the quaint northwest Ohio town of Lakeside. Participants come for the possibility of seeing up to 150 bird species in the area’s lakeside marshes and inland woodlots, laughing with friends old and new, and feeling as though they’ve stepped into Professor Peabody’s way-back machine while strolling the grounds of Lakeside.

The MBS is hosted by a dynamic cast of characters from Bird Watcher’s Digest, Ohio Ornithological Society, and Lakeside, Ohio and organizers love to set new ground with festival website features, social networking integration, and conservation initiatives such as the Carbon Offset Bird Program. In 2011, the festival raised more than $20,000 for bird conservation.
